Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02cm) in height overall consisting of a gold anchor on a maroon enamel base enclosed by a pair of gold wings, elevated with tips touching, issuing from a white enamel wheel with eight spokes bearing a scarlet enamel Greek cross all above a circumscribed maroon enamel scroll, the ends terminating at the lower part of the wings, inscribed with "MEDICINE IN MOTION" in gold letters.

Symbolism
Maroon and white are the colors used for the Army Medical Department. The red cross, symbolic of sustained aid, represents the Medical Department Activity. The wheel, anchor and wings, suggested by the arms of the Army Transportation School at Fort Eustis, refer to the unit's location.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the McDonald Army Hospital on 13 Jan 1970. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Fort Eustis on 30 Aug 1973.
